We love eating oats for breakfast. They are rich in nutrients like good carbs and soluble fibre which is extremely important to maintain a healthy diet and remove the visceral fat from the body which makes them the perfect meal if you’re trying to lose weight. But eating oats in the same way everyday can become monotonous and can take its essence away, especially when it can be made in various other ways as well. These 5 oats recipes are both healthy and delicious and we know you would love to try them out! 

1. Oats Idli 


Ingredients: 

  • Oats – 1 cup 
  • Semolina – ½ cup
  • Curd – ¼ cup
  • Water – 1 cup
  • Salt – to taste
  • Baking soda – ½ tsp
  • Chopped carrots, beans, peas – ¼ cup
  • Mustard – ½ tsp
  • Cumin – ½ tsp
  • Ginger – ½ tsp
  • Hing – a pinch 
  • Green chilli – 1
  • Curry leaves – 5-6
  • Coriander leaves – a few 

Instructions: 

  • Take a pan, heat oil and add mustard and cumin seeds. 
  • Add curry leaves once they start to splutter. Also add hing and ginger.
  • Add semolina and fry until you smell the aroma.
  • Then add oats, fry them until cooked.
  • Add water and curd to make the batter thicker. Set aside for 5-7 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, heat the steamer with water and grease the idli plates.
  • Then mix baking soda to the batter.
  • Once the water steamer begins to boil rapidly, put the idli stand inside and steam for 10-12 minutes and then remove from heat.
  • Wait for a fem minutes before taking out the idlis with the help of a spoon. 

2. Oatmeal Raisin cookies


 

Ingredients: 

  • Brown sugar – ¾ cup 
  • Splenda no-cal. sugar substitute – ½ cup 
  • Raisins – ¾ cup 
  • Rolled oats – 2 cups
  • Whole wheat flour – 1 cup
  • Ground cinnamon – 1 tsp
  • Ground nutmeg – ½ tsp
  • Baking soda – 1 tsp
  • Salt – ½ tsp
  • Unsweetened applesauce – ¾ cup
  • Egg – 1
  • Vanilla extract – 1 tsp 

Instructions: 

  • Take a container and mix all the dry-ingredients together. 
  • Add egg, vanilla and applesauce to the dry ingredients and combine until it’s a completely blended mixture. 
  • Shape them into balls of the size that of walnuts’.
  • Grease a cookie sheet and place them 2-inches apart.
  • Bake at 175 degree Celsius for 12-15 minutes until the edges turn golden-brown.
  • Let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. 
  • Place on baking rack to allow it to cool further.
  • Once tightened, store in an air tight container. 

3. Curd oats 

 

Ingredients: 

  • Oats – ¾ cup 
  • Water 
  • Salt
  • Thick curd – 1- 1 ½ cup
  • Oil – 1 tbsp.
  • Mustard – ½ tsp
  • Cumin – 1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 10-12
  • Hing – a pinch
  • Coriander leaves
  • Grated ginger – ½ tsp
  • Grated carrot – 2 tsp.
  • Green chillies – 2-3 

Instructions: 

  • Add hot water to your oats packet and then let it cool. 
  • Add curd, salt and the chopped veggies. 
  • Combine all the ingredients well.
  • Take a low bottom pan and heat oil. 
  • Add mustard and cumin until they begin to sizzle.
  • Then add grated ginger, curry leaves and chillies. Sauté the ingredients.
  • Remove from heat and add Hing.
  • Pour this into the curd oats.
  • Mix well and serve. 

 4. Oats egg upma 

Ingredients: 

  • Eggs – 1
  • Oats – ¾ cup
  • Salt
  • Turmeric – a pinch
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Chopped mix vegetables – ¼ cup
  • Chopped green chilli – 1
  • Coriander leaves – 1 tsp
  • Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • Lemon juice – 1 tsp
  • Cumin – ½ tsp 

Instructions: 

  • Heat oil in a pan and add cumin. 
  • Add onions once the cumin begins to crackle. Sauté until onions turn brown.
  • Add the mixed vegetables and continue to cook for a few minutes and then cover with a lid until the vegetables are tender.
  • Add oats, salt and turmeric. 
  • Cook for 2 more minutes and then add the egg and sprinkle a few drops of water.
  • Quickly scramble the eggs and cover again. Cook on low heat until the egg is cooked well.
  • Add lemon juice and coriander leaves for garnishing. Serve hot.  

5. Lemon oats


 

Ingredients: 

  • Oats – 1 cup 
  • Water – ¾ cup
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Lemon juice – 1 ¼ tsp
  • Salt
  • Peanuts – fistful
  • Oil – 2 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
  • Split gram dal – 1 tsp
  • Green chillies – 2
  • Red chilli – 1
  • Curry leaves – 10-12 

Instructions: 

  • Take a heavy-bottom vessel and heat the oil.  
  • Add the mustard seeds into the hot oil.
  • Add dal after it begins to sizzle. Allow it to turn red.
  • Add the chillies, curry leaves and mix well.
  • Add the turmeric powder and mix well.
  • Then add water and bring the ingredients to boil. 
  • Add the oats and mix on low flame. Cover with a lid. 
  • Cook for about 4 minutes and then remove the lid.
  • Add lemon juice and mix well. 
  • Cook for another 4 minutes without the lid. Stir once on between.
  • Garnish with roasted peanuts.
